Lets shake it down.... The test for car and our relationship :) Drive from the most northerly place in the UK, Skaw in the Shetlands, to the most southerly place, Lizard Point in Cornwall. Should be easy, so lets do it non-stop, beat the 27 hours that Google Maps suggests you can do it in and set a record!
To give the Cayenne a proper shakedown after we've completed our servicing and upgrades and loaded it up with all the gear we're going to need for the China trip.
Plus, we've not done a long road trip together before so prior to us spending sixish weeks on our way to China we had better make sure we don't want to kill each other after the first few days.
We're doing this in September 2024 so getting to the Shetlands on the overnight ferry from Aberdeen is likely to be a bumpy ride. Travel sickness pills at the ready!!!
Starting in Skaw on the island of Unst in the Shetlands it's a short drive to the port in Belmont. Take the ferry from Belmont to Gutcher on the island of Yell, then another short drive from Gutcher to Ulsta. Catch the Ferry from Ulsta over to Toft on the main island and drive down to Lerwick.
From here we get on the overnight ferry to Aberdeen arriving about 7am on the mainland.
From Aberdeen we head just head south and get to Lizard as quick as speed limits and roadworks will allow.
Overall it should be 27 hours, including all the ferries. Timings are tight, especially getting to the Lerwick to Aberdeen ferry which leaves once every 24 hours, so we don't want to miss that one.
